The University of Iowa's research strengths are world-renowned in among other things: the health sciences and biosciences, in educational testing and measurement, and in engineering and space exploration. As researchers-students, faculty, and staff members alike-we want to do everything we can to help you bring your innovations to market. Our family of programs are here to assist you as you seek a patent, license an idea, create a company, finance a new business, find a mentor, sell your innovation, seek funding opportunities, and more. |
The University of Iowa Research Foundation can help you identify and license inventions to companies that bring those inventions to market. The UIRF also works with entrepreneurs, faculty, industry, and investors to develop UI spinout companies; and advises the UI on intellectual property matters for clinical trials and sponsored research. The John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center (JPEC) offer year-round entrepreneurial training programs and workshops, seminars and networking, one-on-one consulting/mentoring services for early-stage and growing ventures, and access to capital. The Office of Corporate Partnerships can help facilitate meetings between University innovators and companies, and help you gain access to local and regional economic development agencies and industry trade associations. The UI Small Business Development Center (SBDC) can help you develop a business plan and offer one-on-one counseling by qualified professionals as you consider financial alternatives, such as Small Business Administration loan assistance. The Technology Innovation Center also known as the University's business incubator, offers cost-effective space to start-ups and new ventures of established companies that use advanced technology. A new University incubator, the BioVentures Center, will open in fall 2008. |
