Interested in building a solid business plan?  

The Iowa Small Business Development Center offers many opportunities to speak with other professionals on how to create a successful business plan.  Each month SBDC holds several workshops dedicated to various aspects of promoting your business.  One of these workshops is called “Smart Start”.  The “Smart Start” workshop includes information on business basics and shows you how to develop a business plan along with other helpful information.  All of this is available for a small fee.  To find specific dates, times, workshops and prices visit the SBDC Workshop Calendar.  
 

How Can I Secure Financing?

Small Business Development Centers: If you have an SBDC center in your area, this is an excellent place to start. Most of their services are free and all are confidential. Where Can I Find the Space to Grow?

The University of Iowa Research Park has land and buildings of varying sizes and prominence that can be leased out to expanding businesses.  If you’re not entirely sure what your business needs, the UIRP staff can assist prospective tenants in the site selection process.  For more information visit Locating at the Park.        
 

How do I access Core Research Facilities?

The Core Research Facilities are a collection of centralized laboratories dedicated to developing and providing state-of-the-art research resources to facilitate biomedical research. How do I access high-tech resources?

The University of Iowa Research Foundation provides clients with access to new technologies.  The list of available technologies is extensive, but the UIRF website makes searching for specific equipment easier by breaking it down into categories.  To view the available technologies the University has to offer, visit UIRF Technologies
 

How do I find venture capital for entrepreneurial endeavors?

The Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center offers many ways of gaining venture capital.  Each year, JPEC sponsors several competitions that offer cash prizes.  Another option is the Wellmark Venture Capital Fund.  To view Wellmark’s five funding programs visit the Wellmark Program.  
 

How do I connect with experts, entrepreneurs and innovators inside and outside the University of Iowa?

The numerous programs available through the Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center allow participants to actively engage in one-on-one mentorships, networking events and hands-on experience.  Programs for students and the public can be found at the JPEC website under Student Programs and Entrepreneur Support.
