Chris Rogers, Director of Research & Development
Having our laboratory in the UIRP provides our company with access to numerous resources at the University of Iowa and the opportunity to collaborate with some of the world’s leading researchers. This extends our true capabilities beyond that of a small business and makes us more attractive to potential collaborators, investors, and funding agencies. The BVC makes it possible for us to have offices and laboratory space on the same site, which is convenient, efficient, and cost-effective.
Being conveniently located for commuters from both Cedar Rapids and Iowa City and fully supported by existing university infrastructure, the UIRP creates an excellent environment for scientific innovation and small company development. The University of Iowa BioVentures Center is a unique hub which provides entrepreneur/scientists with valuable resources to help them prove the feasibility of their ideas and attract investment in these competitive economic times. Locating in the UIRP has allowed Terpenoid Therapeutics, Inc. to carry out our drug development efforts much more quickly than would have been possible without this level of shared infrastructure, and has allowed us to retain and recruit talented scientists who would have otherwise relocated out of the IC-CR Corridor.
Leonard Duncan, Senior Research Scientist
The Bioventures Center provides the facilities and resources for us to communicate and collaborate with our colleagues around the world. Our work at UIRP allows us to make significant contributions to Vertex's mission of discovering and developing transformational medicines for serious diseases.
Steven Davis, Co-Founder and President
The UIRP has been a tremendous help in the startup phase of our business. Affordable, secure, modern office space in a beautiful park not only makes it an enjoyable place to work everyday, but also an effective location for hosting clients and seminars. Additionally, our close relationship with the University provides many benefits including access to talented interns and new employees, and potential to work with researchers developing cutting edge technologies.
Roman Terrill, Senior VP (Legal Division)
Integrated DNA Technologies
We hire 30 UI graduates every year, so being on the Research Park is one of many UI relationships that helps us access the technical and scientific talent we require. Ninety-five percent of the reason we located here is the availability of productive, well-educated employees at a cost.
Ute Muh, Ph.D., Laboratory Director
Vertex Pharmaceuticals Inc.
We use multiple UI resources that are readily accessible to us at the Research Park. We're surrounded by many academic researchers who share our interest and passion for science. It's truly a collaborative effort.
